Welcome to the Endon website.
Endon is a genuine community of the traditional type, and it encompasses old and new in its architecture, its residents and its activities.
Many families have lived here for generations whilst others have settled here longer term having moved into the area from elsewhere. Most would choose to stay, enjoying the best of the local area, with open countryside surrounding the village, the Peak District National Park very close, and with the contrasting pleasures of the old market town of Leek and the city of Stoke on Trent equidistant at either side. There is easy access to the theatre and the arts in Hanley and Stoke, entertainment for younger residents available at Festival Park, Alton Towers, etc., and of course sporting interest through the local football teams of Stoke City and Port Vale Football Clubs!
The area is semi-rural and, as such, farming is part of its history. There is little indigenous industry locally: most inhabitants work nearby in Leek or Stoke, with several major building societies employing significant numbers of Endon professionals. Many residents used to be employed in the pottery industry until this declined over the last 20 years: the memories remain strong, however, and some of the grander houses of Endon were built originally for the managers of the original pottery works.
The village has two thriving church communities - St Luke’s Church of England and Endon Methodist Church - with many ecumenical activities. These two host a range of community services including youth club, parent and toddler group, etc.
For those who wish to get more involved in the life of the village there are ample opportunities: the annual Festival of Well-Dressing takes place over the Spring Bank Holiday weekend; the Endonian Society maintains information on local history and hosts presentations and discussions; the Parish Council is an active body which has undertaken many significant improvements locally through its hard work and dedication. This site includes information on most of the organisations which run in the village.
Endon boasts two very successful primary schools (St Luke’s Church of England Primary and Endon Hall Primary) and its own 11-16 Community Comprehensive School: Endon High School. Standards are impressively high at all three schools. The High School is oversubscribed with large numbers opting in from neighbouring areas.
Please take this opportunity to explore Endon “virtually” through its website, and learn more about the village and what it has to offer.
